MUTTMATCHERS MESSENGER WESTERN WASHINGTON News

TAKE ACTION TO HELP SAVE ANIMALS' LIVES

Throughout the year, there are things you can do to help save animals' lives:

Please report animal cruelty and neglect, as well as stray or injured animals to your local rescuer or animal shelter.

Avoid purchasing products that were tested on animals.

Encourage your friends and neighbors to join you in donating food, blankets, towels and time to your local animal rescue organization.

Write letters to the editor of your local paper about the problem of unwanted, abused or neglected animals.

Contact your elected representatives and urge them to sponsor stronger laws to protect animals from cruelty.

Share your love for animals and how to properly care for them with children - our greatest legacy will be a more animal friendly world.

LOOKING FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH CREATIVE TALENTS

Do you have a special skill such as "quilter" or "crafter" or "painter?"  Would you be willing to create an "animal-related" object, such as a quilt, basket, welcome wreath, picture frame, cat and dog toys, etc., for a raffle?  Please contact us for further information.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

We need your help to make a difference in the lives of the many animals that are represented in the Muttmatchers® Messenger, by helping to see that this companion animal placement/adoption publication is distributed throughout the Puget Sound area.

* First and foremost, we need donations to continue to publish.  Like most non-profits, our donations have dropped drastically since September 11, 2001.  Printing costs have risen drastically as well.

* We are looking for distribution sites . . . If you have a business or know of a business that would like to carry Muttmatchers® Messenger, please email or call us and we will assist you in making the arrangements.

* We also need volunteer distributors to take the paper to these places.  You need to be able to pick up the papers from Enumclaw or make arrangements to meet someone in your area (if that someone exists!)  Maybe you and a friend can take turns picking up the paper and make a day of distributing.

* If you feel that you have just a few hours of time to devote to helping save these many precious lives, contact us for further information.

* We need fundraising ideas (and help to go along with those ideas!)

* For the kids, have a car wash, garage sale, etc., and donate the proceeds to Muttmatchers® Messenger.

* Have a donation made to Muttmatchers® Messenger in your name instead of someone having to figure out a gift for your birthday/special occasion.

* We need more subscribers!

* We need more advertisers!

* You can donate office supplies, especially 9x12 envelopes and various denominations of stamps.

* How about a 'giving party.'  Basically, you invite animal-loving people to your home to let them know about the paper.  It's kind of like a "$100 a plate" fund raising function in politics.  Contact us for more information.

* If you are getting married or celebrating your birthday or anniversary, you can encourage your guests, friends and relatives to help our work by requesting that in place of gifts, they make a donation to Muttmatchers® Messenger.  We can keep track of donations, including names and addresses and give you a list.

Click HereHORSE LOVERS CAN CONTRIBUTE TOO!

The Equine Rescue Association (ERA) out of Marysville, Washington, is asking for our help.  Dr. Vel Moore, caretaker at ERA has been on the local news stations lately asking for assistance for the horses, not her.

This organization takes in horses that have nowhere else to go.  And gives them a purpose to live again.   They have been abused or their owners just can't care for them anymore.  These former race horses and show horses are used to teach children, both able-bodied and not, to ride.

And like most of us non-profits, we have been hit hard economically since 9/11/2001.  But unlike kitties, these large animals eat a lot and need medical care, shoes and dental care.

Can you remember when you were a little one?  We all wanted a horse for Christmas.  Can you help this non-profit horse farm out with a generous contribution?  How about making a donation to them in place of one gift for yourself?

The address to mail contributions is:

Equine Rescue Association
14607 Smokey Point Blvd.
Marysville, WA  98271

The telephone to call to make arrangements to bring donations to them personally is:

360-658-5494

Thank you for those who can, and thank you for those who wish they could, but can pass the word on to others.  The wonderful throwaways need our help right away!  Put a sign up at your work, local feed store, pet shop, or get on the phone or internet and network.  We can make a difference!!!
